Andy Gibb - All I Have to Do Is Dream

By far the best-known version of “All I Have to Do Is Dream” was recorded by The Everly Brothers and released as a single in April 1958. It had been recorded by The Everly Brothers live in just two takes on March 6, 1958 and features Chet Atkins on guitar. Andy Gibb and Victoria Principal released the song as a single and it was the last single by Gibb. The song was the only single by Victoria Principal. Gibb’s romance with Principal also ended when she gave him an ultimatum to choose between her or drugs, but not before they recorded and released a duet of the Everly Brothers' "All I Have to Do Is Dream" in the summer of 1981. He reportedly heard her singing in the shower and convinced her to go into the studio with him. This would be Gibb's last official single, and his last US chart entry, peaking at number 51.
On 5 March 1988, Andy Gibb celebrated his 30th birthday in London, while working on the new album. Soon after, he entered John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford complaining of chest pains and died five days after his birthday, on 10 March 1988, as a result of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle caused by a recent viral infection which was exacerbated by his years of cocaine abuse. -wiki

Bee Gees - Spirits (Having Flown)

Spirits Having Flown marked the tail end of the band's most successful era, prior to a severe downturn in the early 1980s when they would endure a near-total radio blackout that Robin Gibb would refer to as "censorship" and "evil" in interviews. -wiki

The Bee Gees - Mr. Natural

Released during a period in which The Bee Gees just had an album (A Kick In The Head Is Worth Eight In The Pants) rejected by their manager Robert Stigwood, Mr. Natural barely scraped the lower end of the Billboard Hot 100 climbing to #93 despite promotional appearances on The Mike Douglas Show and The Merv Griffin Show. However, that showing continued their streak of reaching the Hot 100 every calendar year, starting in 1967, unbroken through 1979. "Mr. Natural" was a hit in Australia where it climbed to #11 due to the Bee Gees concerts there. -wiki

Today’s Video: Bee Gees - I Started a Joke

Robin Gibb's son played "I Started a Joke" on his phone just after his father died from kidney failure on May 20, 2012. Robin-John Gibb told The Sun:

"When he passed away we went out, they took the equipment away and we came back in, I picked up my phone and found "I Started a Joke" on YouTube and played it. I put the phone on his chest and that was the first time I broke down. I knew that song and its lyrics were perfect for that moment. That song will always have new meaning to me now."

According to Robin Gibb, the melancholic melody of the song was inspired by the sounds on board an aeroplane:

"The melody to this one was heard aboard a British Airways Vickers Viscount about a hundred miles from Essen. It was one of those old four engine 'prop' jobs, that seemed to drone the passenger into a sort of hypnotic trance, only with this it was different. The droning, after a while, appeared to take the form of a tune, which mysteriously sounded like a church choir. So it was decided! We accosted the pilot, forced him to land in the nearest village and there; in a small pub, we finished the lyrics [with Barry]. Actually, it wasn't a village, it was the city, and it wasn't a pub, it was a hotel, and we didn't force the pilot to land in a field... but why ruin a perfectly good story?"
